Both routes to Worcester Park station measure 1.2 miles and differ by a minute. Both routes to Cheam station are eight and ten minutes for 1.5 and 2.0 miles. And the shorter way to Sutton station — 2.6 miles via the A2043 and A232 — is a minute slower than the 2.9-mile run up the A217. Distance is not the thing here; the junction you get stuck at is.

There is a route to Heathrow across town on the A308 that measures 16.7 miles. There is a route round on the A3 and M25 that measures 28.0 miles. The long way is eleven miles further and three minutes quicker — 30 mph against 17 mph, because the short way is all traffic lights and the long way is motorway.

All three are long runs from North Cheam, going the wrong way round London. Luton and Stansted are both comfortably over an hour on the M25, and for those we will always suggest booking the night before rather than the morning of.

North Cheam sits at a crossroads, so a great many of our jobs here start or end in the places around it.
Just over a mile north-west, about eight minutes by road, with its own station on the Waterloo line. It is one of our busiest neighbouring areas and it has a page of its own — see Worcester Park taxis and minicabs. Book on the same number either way.
A mile south — the older, quieter half of the pair, with the station on the Sutton and Mole Valley line and direct trains to Victoria in about thirty minutes. Cheam taxis has the detail for that side.
Sutton station is 2.9 miles and about twelve minutes — the biggest interchange within reach. Sutton and Morden both have their own pages. Epsom lies south-west down the A24, the old Roman road that runs through Victoria Junction as London Road.
St Anthony’s, the large private hospital, is on our doorstep here, and hospital work is a steady part of what we do in North Cheam. Our medical transport service books the outward and the return together, and the driver waits rather than leaving you to find a car afterwards.
That matters more than it sounds. After a procedure, or a long wait in a clinic that has overrun, the last thing you want is to be standing outside working out which bus goes where. Book both legs and the same car comes back for you.

Victoria Junction is the centre of North Cheam and the landmark everybody gives. Around it sit a large Sainsbury’s with a Starbucks attached, a park next door, a run of independent shops and restaurants, a twenty-four-hour McDonald’s drive-thru, a post office and a Costa. It is a perfectly good pickup point at any hour, which is more than can be said for most of the addresses off it after dark.
The A24 runs through as London Road at North Cheam, and it follows the course of the Roman road — which is why it is so straight and why everything else in the area meets it at an angle. Heading south it takes you towards Epsom; north towards Morden and the river.
Nonsuch Park is adjacent to North Cheam and shared with Cheam Village. On a summer weekend the car parks fill and the roads around them slow right down; on a winter afternoon the light goes before people expect it and the walk out is longer than they remembered. Both are regular pickups for us — give us a car park name and a rough time.
North Cheam is described, accurately, as the crossroads between Cheam Village, Worcester Park, Epsom and Morden. That is its character and its traffic problem in one sentence.
